When Karl Lagerfeld took the creative helm of CHANEL in 1983, he set out to honour the founder’s pioneering 2.55 bag with his own interpretation: the Double Flap. The progeny design resulted in two equally iconic updates – a leather-woven chain strap and interlocking CC fastening. To separate and protect the main compartment, the additional namesake flap on this pink diamond-quilted iteration sits below the larger exterior one (whose zip pocket is rumoured to have been used by Coco Chanel to hide love letters). Each one is handcrafted at the label’s Ateliers de Verneuil-en-Halatte workshop by artisans with a minimum of four years spent training to master every meticulous technique in the 15-hour and 180-step process.
